About the movie

A short film called Mahotu is based on a book that won a national award. The word "Mahotu" refers to a small piece of cloth typically used to dry dishes. This tale illustrates the perspectives of two different social classes on rituals and women. One family is upper-class, male-dominated, and social reputation is everything to them. Another family is lower-class, self-respect and human feelings are everything to them, and they control their own lives. A 14-year-old girl from an upper-class family tells the tale. She gives her interpretation of the events taking place around her.
